Colombian peace agreements on drugs: Rural development and health
The substitution of illicit crops, drug use prevention, public health, and to solve the issue of the production and sale of drugs have been the main discussion points on drug policies in the Colombian peace round tables in La Habana.
16 Oct 2014The substitution of illicit crops, drug use prevention, public health, and to solve the issue of the production and sale of drugs have been the main discussion points on drug policies in the Colombian peace round tables in La Habana. Currently the agreements are: To promote the voluntary illicit crops eradication, integral rural development and community participation, as well as the decriminalisation of small farmers and growers. This means that the institutions will have to approach some territories, abandoned for decades, and that the rural communities will have to engage in the eradication of coca, marijuana and poppy crops in their territories. Therefore, the agreements made in the round table on drugs are tightly related with the agreements made on rural development.
