Combining his drive and business sense with a passion for human rights, Sebastian is best described as a social entrepreneur. He was  appointed as Executive Director of International Doctors for Healthier Drug Policies in 2014 and for the previous nine years he was the Executive Director of Release, the UK centre of expertise on drugs and the law. Well known for his innovative approaches in fighting the stigma faced by people using drugs, Sebastian played the key role in the Nice People Take Drugs campaign and set up the Teeth Project. A member of the Expert Witness Institute, Sebastian is able to provide specialist evidence in all UK courts of law and has accompanied high-level delegations as an expert on drug policy and harm reduction.  When featured in a broadsheet interview, Sebastian was described as a “Rebel with a cause.”

 

Professor Carl Hart, IDHDP Associate Director

 
Dr. Carl L. Hart, Ziff Professor at Columbia University and former chair of the Department of Psychology, is one of the world’s preeminent experts on the effects of so-called recreational drugs on the human mind and body. Dr. Hart has published more than 100 scientific articles in the area of neuropsychopharmacology and is co-author of the textbook Drugs, Society and Human Behavior (with Charles Ksir). His book, “High Price: A Neuroscientist’s Journey of Self-Discovery That Challenges Everything You Know About Drugs and Society,” was the 2014 winner of the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. His most recent book is entitled, “Drug Use for Grown-ups: Chasing Liberty in the Land of Fear.” CARL_PIC (3)
