Scottish Injecting Equipment Provision (IEP) Guidelines Consultation Launch

It has been recognised that since the launch of the original guidelines in 2010, there has been much change in the way drugs of many types are used and in the evidence behind why we deliver a variety of interventions.

It is hoped the new guidelines will help deliver enhanced provision of IEP that has a large impact on mortality and morbidity among people who use drugs.

A consultation for the revised guidelines for the wider drugs field, including people who currently inject drugs, those who work with them and those in strategic roles, will be launched through a themed webinar on the 5th February.

This webinar will be chaired by Jim Shanley, co-chair of the expert IEP guidance development group, NHS Lothian, and it will include presentations related to delivering injecting equipment and related paraphernalia.

Dr Magdalena Harris, Associate Professor, London School of Tropical Medicine
– The ancillary benefits of IEP and the provision of sterile inhalant pipes

Dr Andrew McAuley, Public Health Scotland and Glasgow Caledonian University, Co-chair Scottish SHBBV Prevention Leads
– Epidemiology and the impact of IEP

John Campbell, Co-chair of the expert IEP guidance group, NHS GGC
– Current trends in injecting and injury, on the ground evidence for change

In the following week, there will be the opportunity to attend online workshops for those who wish to discuss and input to the consultation document or process.
